The Charlottetown Islanders hot start continues. The Isles blanked the visiting Rouyn Noranda Huskies, 5-0 in the Q.Thomas Casey scored the game winner and Matt Welsh got win and shutout with 30 saves.
Nikita Alexandrov had three assists and reaches the 100 point mark his Q career. The Islanders in first in the Maritimes with 6 wins and two overtime losses and have collected points in all 8 games.
Also in the Q: Halifax doubled Moncton, 4-2. Raphael Lavoie with 2 goals and an assist. Val-d’Or scored three straight goals in the third and dropped Saint John, 7-5.
Three straight shutouts for goalie Camille Scherger and the unbeaten UPEI women’s Panthers in the AUS.
UPEI won 4-0 over visiting Dalhousie to improve to 3-0.
Scherger, the UPEI, AUS and U-Sport female athlete of the week had to make only 14 saves for her latest shutout.

The Washington Nationals open the National League Championship series in St. Louis shutting out the Cardinals, 2-0. Anibal Sanchez pitched into the 8th inning allowing just one hit. Howie Kendrick scored and singled in the other Nats run.
The Carolina Hurricanes are off to their best start in franchise history at 5-0 with a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders.
Cam Fowler had the game winner as Anaheim edged Columbus, 2-1.
Buffalo went to a shootout to stop Florida, 3-2.
PEI FC lost 6-0 to St. Laurent, Quebec in the Toyota Cup Under 17 national soccer championship.

Holland College lost 2-1 to Acadia in the opener of the Atlantic baseball playoffs.
The Redeemer College Royals over the UPEI men’s Panthers, 83-80 to begin the Holland College basketball tournament.
The Hurricanes won 88-62 over St. Thomas.

The Northern Moose got by the Charlottetown Knights, 2-1 in overtime in Major Midget. Olivier Nadeau with the winner. Gabe Harten scored for the Knights.
The Central Attack shutout Kings County, 2-0 in PEI Midget AAA.

Saturday night hockey on Ocean 100 as the last place Acadie-Bathurst Titan visit the Charlottetown Islanders in the Q at 7.00. The pre-game show begins at 6.45.
The Islanders are coming off a 5-0 shutout over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and have yet to be defeated in regulation. They have picked up 14 of 16 points through 8 game.
Goalie Matt Welsh enjoyed his first shutout last night hand has 5 wins and 1 loss with a 1.32 goals against average.

The Summerside Western Capitals are another hot team. They are 7-2 in the MHL and host the Edmundston Blizzard tonight at 7.00. They are 7-2 and have won two in a row.

The UPEI men’s hockey Panthers host the defending University Cup champion UNB Reds at 7.00 in AUS men’s hockey. UNB is 2-1 so far and two points back of St. F.X. and Acadia. The Panthers are 1-1-1 and are coming off a 4-1 win in Moncton.
In women’s hockey…unbeaten UPEI visits Saint Mary’s. The Panthers are 3-0 after shutting out Dalhousie, 4-0.
