The PEI Sports Hall of Fame held its 50th Anniversary Pin Presentation on Saturday at the Rodd Royalty in Charlottetown with over 60 Hall of Famers both living and deceased honoured.
Many family members were on hand.
Hall of Fame Chair, Paul H. Schurman, a hall member himself, presented the unique pins which were designed by Island artist Wayne Wright.
Hall of Fame Executive Director Nick Murray introduced the members while Queens Board member Dave Holland introduced a new slide presentation highlighting each member.
Health Minister James Aylward, who is also the Minister of Sport was on hand along with interim Liberal Leader Robert Mitchell and Charlottetown city councillor Mitch Tweel, who is chair of recreation, sport and leisure for the City.
NHL great Billy MacMillan says it was an honour to be with so many hall of famers and it was good to meet some old friends.
Canadian LPGA golf star Lorie Kane was honoured to accept a pin herself and accepted on behalf of her late grandfather Jack (Hurry) Cane a hockey star who turned coached in the 1930’s and 40’s.
Her father Jack also received a pin as coach of the 1964-65 St. Dunstan’s Saints, the national silver medal winning team in university hockey.
There are 193 members in the PEI Sports Hall of Fame located in Credit Union Place in Summerside including individuals and teams.
