Thursday (April 25th) marks the first-ever Cyberbullying Awareness Day in PEI. It’s the result of a bill put forward by Souris- Elmira MLA Robin Croucher, which received all-party support during the spring session of the Legislature. Premier Dennis King has issued a statement to mark the day, saying the day aims to highlight the pervasive issue of cyberbullying, which has a profound and lasting impact on individuals, families, and communities. He says it’s also to encourage discussion on how to protect against and prevent cyberbullying. King says cyberbullying can take many forms, including hurtful messages, harassment, spreading rumours, and sharing images without consent. King encourages every Islander to educate themselves about the signs of cyberbullying and the resources available to those in need.
